Binaural beats are created when two slightly different frequencies are played in each ear. Your brain perceives a third "beat" at the difference between the two frequencies. For example, if 200 Hz is played in one ear and 210 Hz in the other, your brain perceives a 10 Hz beat — which corresponds to the Alpha brainwave range associated with relaxation. Different frequency ranges promote different mental states: Delta (1-4 Hz) for deep sleep, Theta (4-8 Hz) for meditation, Alpha (8-14 Hz) for relaxation, and Beta (14-30 Hz) for focus.

Solfeggio frequencies are a set of specific tones historically associated with healing and wellness practices. Common solfeggio frequencies include 396 Hz (liberation from fear), 432 Hz (natural harmony), 528 Hz (transformation and DNA repair), and 741 Hz (awakening intuition). While scientific evidence is limited, many users report positive subjective experiences.

Headphones are required for binaural beats to work, as each ear needs to receive a slightly different frequency. For ambient sounds, nature soundscapes, and solfeggio frequencies, speakers work fine — but headphones always provide the best experience.

If you have health concerns — especially epilepsy, seizure disorders, or neurological conditions — consult your healthcare provider before use.

Synaps is available on iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android. It requires iOS 16+ or Android 10+ for the best experience.

The Frequency Tuner lets you create custom pure tones and binaural beats. Select specific frequencies from Sub-Bass (20-60 Hz) to High-Mid (800-1000 Hz), choose a waveform (sine, triangle, square, sawtooth), and save your favorite presets for quick access.

Synaps offers guided breathing techniques including Box Breathing (4-4-4-4), the 4-7-8 method for sleep, and the Wim Hof technique. Each exercise includes visual guides and optional haptic cues.

With your permission, Synaps can adapt sounds based on your local weather (rain, temperature) and physical activity (stationary, walking, running). This creates a more immersive, context-aware listening experience. You can enable or disable this in Settings.

The Ambient Mixer lets you layer up to 5 ambient sounds (rain, ocean, wind, forest, fire, etc.) on top of any playing soundscape. Each layer has its own volume control, so you can create your perfect sound environment.

Previously listened soundscapes may be cached for offline use. The Frequency Tuner generates audio on-device and always works offline. However, you need an internet connection to browse new content, sync your account, and manage your subscription.

Yes. New users get a free trial period to explore all premium features. You can also use 3 free listening sessions without subscribing. If you don't cancel the trial before it ends, your subscription will automatically begin.

iOS: Open Settings → tap your name (Apple ID) → Subscriptions → Synaps → Cancel Subscription.

Android: Open Google Play Store → tap your profile → Payments & Subscriptions → Subscriptions → Synaps → Cancel.

Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You'll continue to have access until then.

Go to Profile → Subscription → Restore Purchases. This will sync any active subscriptions linked to your App Store or Google Play account.

Refunds are handled by Apple and Google, not directly by Synaps. To request a refund on iOS, visit reportaproblem.apple.com. On Android, visit the Google Play support page.

Go to Profile → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and all associated data from our servers, including listening sessions and profile information. This action cannot be undone. Note: you must cancel any active subscription separately through your App Store or Google Play settings.

Yes. Your preferences and onboarding data are stored locally on your device. Account data is stored securely with row-level security. All data transfers use HTTPS/TLS encryption. Authentication tokens are stored in your device's secure keychain. We do not sell your data to anyone, and we do not use any advertising or analytics trackers.

On the login screen, tap "Forgot Password" and enter your email address. You'll receive a password reset link. If you signed up with Apple or Google, you don't have a Synaps password — just sign in with the same provider.

Make sure your device is not in silent mode and the volume is turned up. Check that no other audio apps are playing. Try restarting the app. If the issue persists, go to Settings → Audio Cache → Clear to reset cached audio data.

Binaural beats require stereo headphones. Make sure you're using headphones (not a single speaker or mono earpiece) and that the left and right channels are correctly oriented. The effect is subtle — give it at least 10-15 minutes for your brain to entrain to the frequency.

Try closing and reopening the app. If the problem continues, ensure you have the latest version installed from the App Store or Google Play. As a last resort, uninstall and reinstall the app (your account data will be preserved if you log in again).
